Songs of Life and Death
performance / concert / live projection
Premiere Theatre im Pumpenhaus, Münster 2012
'Songs of Life and Death' is a one-hour musical and visual roller coaster ride through the short and intense life of the American poet diva Anne Sexton, a gripping mix of concert, reading and live projection. Michael Kolberg (electric guitars) and Anna Stern (reading, singing, live projection) transform some of her best poems into touching songs. Guitar grooves alternate with floating sounds and looped noise cascades, the voice speaks, sings, swears, coquettes, dies and rises again. The two performers act in front of a moving background and are part of the picture at the same time: an aquarium on stage is filled with rising, floating and sinking objects and substances that appear as live projection on a screen. The change of dimension gives objects and texts a new and alienating quality and meaning. The performance has been shown several times since 2012 and has been received enthusiastically by an audience between the ages of 17 and 77 (Poetry Festival Münster, Theatre Pumpenhaus, Münster, Kunsthaus Essen, Museum for Outsider Art Kunsthaus Kannen, Ruller House Osnabrück).
